In the spirit of full disclosure, now is probably a pretty good time to cop to the fact that this adventure has no plan. It starts today, it ends sometime in June 2011, and there will be about 6 weeks spent in Long Island, N.Y. in the fall to work with the lovely Katie Carman on our upcoming feature OFF SEASON. Other than those facts, we're just, uh, winging it.
We saved up for years to do this, even delaying a year after the economic apocalypse of 09, and thought that somewhere along the line we'd bang out a detailed itinerary. That didn't happen. Which is why our jet lagged selves have done little more today on our first afternoon in Argentina than buy stuff for breakfast (the ramshackle food store we wandered into was beyond random in what it chose to stock, so we'll be having confectioners sugar in our coffee for the next two weeks) then sit upon the couch and ask "Where are we, and (more importantly) what should we do tomorrow?" It's a pretty awesome problem to have.
Here's a few shots from TRAVEL DAY! As you will observe, they make some pretty enormous styrofoam cups in Mexico. It was like hugging Shakezilla (evidently known en espanol as Batitron)
